Jackson leads Argos past Bombers

Sep 30, 2012 - 2:48 AM Winnipeg, MB (Sports Network) - Jarious Jackson passed for 155 yards, ran for 51 yards, and tallied two total touchdowns as the Toronto Argonauts built a big first-half lead over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and held on to win, 29-10, at Canad Inns Stadium.

Jackson completed 17-of-28 passes for Toronto (7-6), which snapped a two-game losing skid. Dontrelle Inman caught four passes for a team-high 58 yards and Chad Kackert gained 86 yards on 20 carries.

For Winnipeg (3-10), Buck Pierce completed 8-of-13 passes for 120 yards and a touchdown, but he had to leave the game early after taking a hard hit from Toronto linebacker Brandon Isaac. Joey Elliot took his place, and throwing for 173 yards and three interceptions. Clarence Denmark (10 receptions, 99 yards) and Chris Matthews (seven receptions, 82 yards) each had effective days receiving. The Blue Bombers are now losers of five of their last six games.

Toronto opened the game on a 15-play drive, capping it off with a Jackson one- yard rushing touchdown on third down to give the it an early 7-0 lead.

The Argos wasted no time adding to their lead, as Marcus Ball intercepted a Pierce pass on the ensuing Winnipeg drive and returned it 27 yards for a touchdown. Their advantage ballooned even further to 21-0 before the quarter was out when Jackson found Inman in the corner of the end zone for a 12-yard touchdown strike.

Winnipeg found the scoreboard midway through the second quarter on a 20-yard field goal from Justin Palardy. The Blue Bombers made it 21-10 later in the quarter following a 20-yard touchdown catch by Terrence Edwards from Pierce.

Toronto added a last-second field goal at the end of the half when Swayze Waters nailed a 46-yarder to put the Argos up 24-10 heading into intermission.

The second half started similar to how the first half ended, with Waters connecting on field goal (23 yards) to extended the Argonauts lead to 27-10.

Toronto added a pair of singles in the fourth quarter to go up 29-10. The Blue Bombers drove deep into Argonauts' territory midway through the fourth quarter attempting to shift the momentum, but Elliot threw an interception in the end zone to halt the drive. Elliot tossed two more picks in Toronto territory in the game's final three minutes.

"You can't turn the ball over that many times," Winnipeg head coach Tim Burke said of his team's performance. "You can't have that many dropped passes, and you can't have that many penalties."

Game Notes

Armond Armstead paced the Toronto defense with seven tackles and a sack...The major for Inman was his fourth of the season...Pierce returned to the Winnipeg sidelines following the hit, but Burke opted to stay with Elliott under center...Chad Owens became the first player in professional football history to tally at least 3,000 combined yards in three different seasons.
