Roughriders pummel Ti-Cats, move to 4-0

Jul 22, 2013 - 4:32 AM Regina, SK (Sports Network) - Darian Durant threw for 347 yards and four touchdowns as the Saskatchewan Roughriders blanked the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, 37-0, at Mosaic Stadium.

Durant completed 20-of-32 passes and went without a turnover. Kory Sheets rushed 24 times for 130 yards. Rob Bagg had five receptions for 125 yards and two touchdowns as the Roughriders (4-0) remain undefeated to start the season.

"We put the pedal to the gas," Riders defensive end Ricky Foley said. "It was a great team effort."

Hamilton struggled offensively, recording just 195 total yards. Signal-caller Henry Burris finished 16-of-27 through the air for 158 yards and an interception. He also led the team in rushing with 10 yards on four attempts.

Bakari Grant was the primary beneficiary of Burris' passes, collecting six receptions for 80 yards for the Tiger-Cats (1-3), who were coming off their first win of the season on June 13 against Winnipeg.

Early in the first quarter, Burris threw a pass to Greg Ellingson, and Ellingson fumbled it at the Roughriders' 50-yard line. Saskatchewan's Weldon Brown recovered it and was immediately tackled.

Though the Roughriders did not score in the first period, they went on 16-0 spree in the second.

Chris Milo got them on the board when he connected on a 13-yard field goal 30 seconds into the frame.

Milo knocked down another field goal from 47 yards out midway through the quarter.

Saskatchewan received its first touchdown of the game with 3:38 left in the first half. Durant was a perfect 4-for-4 on the drive and capped it with a 28- yard touchdown pass to Bagg.

Milo finished off the half with a 14-yard field goal.

Saskatchewan continued to pull away in the second half. On the final drive -- 85 yards over 3 1/2 minutes -- of the third quarter. Durant found Dan Clark for an eight-yard major to make it a 23-0 game. Back-to-back defensive penalties on Hamilton gave the Roughriders 25 yards and easily put them in Tiger-Cats territory prior to the score.

They sealed the victory with two touchdowns in the fourth. The first came on their second drive of the period. Starting at the Tiger-Cats' 50, they received a penalty for an illegal block. Despite this, a 60-yard pass from Durant to Bagg with gave them a 30-point cushion.

A 28-yard TD throw from Durant to Weston Dressler ended Hamilton's chances of making a comeback.

Game Notes

The Roughriders' Geroy Simon had two receptions for 38 yards, extending his streak of at least one catch to 174 games. He also needs nine catches to become the third player in CFL history to reach 1,000 and is 175 yards short of becoming the first to reach 16,000 ... The last time the Tiger-Cats were shut out was on July 28, 2006.
