Maxwell to carry hot BBL form into ODIs

Jan 6, 2016 - 7:34 PM Glenn Maxwell's parting gift to Melbourne Stars has him primed to make his presence felt against India in the upcoming ODI series.

Maxwell's unbeaten 56 from 32 balls propelled Stars to an eight-wicket win against Hobart Hurricanes at the MCG in his last match of BBL05.

The allrounder also opened the bowling and took a wicket in his first over to cap what he feels has been an ideal preparation for international limited-overs action.

"I've been hitting them well for a while - ever since the (Sheffield) Shield I feel like I've been hitting the ball well and moving really well," Maxwell said.

"(But) I hadn't quite clicked everything into gear and today everything clicked and it felt really good.

"It's good timing right before the one-dayers."

It wasn't all smooth sailing for Maxwell, who bowled three wides before he coaxed a false shot out of Tim Paine, that was well caught by James Faulkner at mid-on, without scoring.

"I bowled a pile of junk tonight but that can happen when you get the new ball," he said.

"Hopefully it all works when we get over to Perth and I can get through 10 overs for us.

"It was fine - I just bowled three junk balls in one over, which can happen, unfortunately, when the ball drifts the wrong way.

"Sometimes it can look worse than it is." The win - Stars third in a row - moved them into fourth spot on the BBL ladder after a rocky 0-2 start to the series.

Maxwell is confident they have the depth to cover his loss for the rest of BBL05, along with Faulkner and Scott Boland, while they battle India in the five-match series.

Australia's 13-man ODI squad will gather in Perth on Friday ahead of Tuesday's day game series-opener at the WACA.
