American Pharoah breezes at Santa Anita

Jun 29, 2015 - 4:37 PM Arcadia, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Triple Crown winner American Pharoah had his first workout Monday morning since returning to Santa Anita from Churchill Downs.

Trained by Bob Baffert for Zayat Stables, American Pharoah breezed three furlongs over a fast Santa Anita track in 36.40 seconds. The 3-year-old colt, the first Triple Crown champ since 1978, arrived back in California last week.

Saturday night the champion paraded at Santa Anita to allow the horse racing fans to cheer and photograph him as he was led around the track.

"We also want to thank Bob Baffert and his team for sharing America's newest Triple Crown winner, American Pharoah, so graciously with our fans and media ever since his arrival back here on June 18," said Santa Anita Chairman Keith Brackpool. "We had a tremendous crowd here on Gold Cup Day of more than 21,000 people and many of them were here to see American Pharoah. Having a horse of this magnitude based here at Santa Anita is a great honor and we can't thank Bob enough for his generosity."

No decision has been announced as to American Pharoah's next start. Among the probable races are the Jim Dandy at Saratoga and Monmouth Park's Haskell Invitational a stakes that Baffert has won seven times, including last year with Bayern.
