Powell, Schwartzman & LoCascio named MLL Players of the Week

May 13, 2014 - 8:25 PM Boston, MA (Sports Network) - Major League Lacrosse, the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, announced Week 3's Warrior Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week and the Cascade Rookie of the Week today. This week, Casey Powell of the Florida Launch was awarded offensive honors, and goaltender Jesse Schwartzman was recognized for his defensive contributions. Rookie defenseman John LoCascio made his MLL debut over the weekend, helping the Rochester Rattlers hold the New York Lizards in the single digits.

In addition to helping the Launch secure their second consecutive win of their inaugural season, 10-year MLL veteran Casey Powell is now three points away from reclaiming first place on the League leaderboard with 421 career points. Netting five goals alone in their 10-9 victory over the Ohio Machine, Powell already has 16 points this season, leading the League.

With the Denver Outlaws' 23rd consecutive win this weekend, goaltender Jesse Schwartzman took the lead in most career wins between the pipes with 61 victories expanding over seven seasons. Schwartzman took his career high victory with a 10-9 overtime win against the Boston Cannons this past Saturday, saving 24 out of 33 shots on goal for an impressive .727 save percentage.

Cascade Rookie of the Week was awarded to John LoCascio, who had a standout performance in his first MLL game with the Rochester Rattlers upon the ending of his season with Villanova. LoCascio's defensive efforts helped hold the New York Lizards in the single digits on Friday, allowing the Rattlers to split the Battle of New York series with a 15-8 win.
