Holman, Manley & Schreiber named MLL Players of the Week

Jun 3, 2014 - 3:59 PM Boston, MA (Sports Network) - Major League Lacrosse, the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, announced Week 5's Warrior Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week and the Cascade Rookie of the Week today. This week, Marcus Holman was awarded offensive honors for his effort in leading the Ohio Machine to defeat the Chesapeake Bayhawks, and Mike Manley was recognized for being the anchor of a team defense in Rochester as the Rattlers beat the Florida Launch. Rookie attackman Tom Schreiber of the Ohio Machine earned the first year's award in his third week in the League.

Holman helped the Machine defeat the Bayhawks, contributing six points in their 15-11 victory. The UNC product found the back of the net four times and assisted Logan Schuss on a powerplay goal early in the third. One of his tallies even included a two-point powerplay goal late in the third. With Holman leading the charge against Chesapeake, Ohio was able to beat the defending Steinfeld Trophy Champions, handing them their third consecutive loss.

Manley contributed in many ways to the Rattlers' defeat of the Launch, the most important of which was defensively, and the most surprising of which was offensively. In Rochester's 18-11 victory, Manley scored a goal late in the third, and worked the entirety of the game holding top shooters like Casey Powell and Kevin Crowley to a collective six points (one goal, five assists).

Cascade Rookie of the Week was awarded to Schreiber, who has now had three standout games with the Ohio Machine. Schreiber was instrumental in Holman's and the Machine's offensive attack on the Bayhawks. Chesapeake took the lead three minutes into the game, but were only allowed to tally three until the Machine's defense set in, and Schreiber, Holman & Co. were able to battle back.
