Manny homers to help Dodgers rout Reds 12-0

Jun 16, 2010 - 5:57 AM CINCINNATI(AP) -- Rafael Furcal had five hits, made a couple of nice plays in the field and pretty much did everything he could.

Except get six hits. He grounded out in the ninth.

"In a game like this, you want to take advantage," Furcal said. "You never know about the next game. You could go 0 for 5."

Manny Ramirez contributed with a homer four RBIs to help the Dodgers snap a three-game losing streak with a 12-0 win over the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday night.

James Loney also had four hits to help the Dodgers finish with more runs than the eight they scored while being swept by the Los Angeles Angels in a three-game weekend series at Dodger Stadium.

A long rain delay obviously didn't bother Furcal, who was playing his 20th game since returning from the disabled list after pulling a hamstring.

"As soon as they said the game would start in a half hour, we started to stretch and move around," Furcal said. "I'm feeling better the last four or five days. The first week and a half when I came back, I was a little sore, but it's gone now. I feel like I do at the start of the season now."

The Reds, who spent the previous six days alone in first place in the NL Central Division, lost for the third time in four games and dropped into a tie with St. Louis after the Cardinals beat Seattle 4-2.

The Dodgers, who have scored 40 runs in four games at Great American Ball Park this season, tied a season high with 19 hits.

"They blew us out," Reds manager Dusty Baker said. "They got hit after hit after hit. That was not a good night for us tonight - a long game and a drubbing to boot."

Hiroki Kuroda outlasted a rain delay of 2 hours, 24 minutes to win for the first time in four starts since beating Houston 7-3 on May 18.

Kuroda (6-4) allowed three hits with two walks and five strikeouts while picking up his third win in three career starts against Cincinnati.

"I felt good," Kuroda said. "I wanted to go back out there. I wanted to go all the way today. I have never waited this long. Generally, in Japan, they wait an hour. If it doesn't stop raining, they cancel the game. If I didn't go back out there, I thought my whole day would be wasted. I played catch with the bullpen coach three times during the delay."

Cincinnati starter Aaron Harang did not return after rain forced a delay with one out in the top of the fifth inning. Harang (5-6), who'd won his last three decisions, gave up seven hits and five runs with two walks and five strikeouts.

Furcal's double in the first sparked a three-run inning and the Dodgers added three more in the fifth after the delay on RBI singles by Ramirez, Loney and Casey Blake before Ramirez hit a two-run shot in the seventh.

Ramon Troncoso drew a bases-loaded walk for his first career RBI and Furcal drove in two runs with a line drive off the left field wall that went for a single when Troncoso stopped at second.

"Furcal was the star of the game," manager Joe Torre said. "He did everything but sell tickets."

Notes: The rain delay was the Reds' first of the season in Cincinnati in 38 games. ... The Reds recalled RHP Jordan Smith from Double-A Carolina and optioned RHP Enerio Del Rosario to Triple-A Louisville before the game. Smith, who's never pitched above the Double-A level in five professional seasons, was 1-3 with a 5.08 ERA in 27 relief appearances for the Mudcats. In two stints with the Reds this season, Del Rosario was 1-1 with a 2.08 ERA in nine games. ... The Dodgers plan to put RHP Chad Billingsley on the disabled list because of a groin injury, manager Joe Torre said. ... Matt Kemp's appearance in the sixth slot of the batting order was his first of the season lower than fifth in 64 games ... Baker celebrated his 61st birthday.
