Dodgers down Phillies
Jun 8, 2011 - 3:04 AM Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Matt Kemp hit a two-run home run and scored twice as the Los Angeles Dodgers took a 6-2 win over the Philadelphia Phillies in the second of a three-game set from Citizens Bank Park.Dee Gordon made the first start of his career and went 3-for-5 with a run scored and also stole a base.
"It was nice for him to get out of the gate and get a couple of hits," said Dodgers manager Don Mattingly about Gordon. "He is going to be an exciting player to watch. I'm sure we're going to have growing pains with him, but he's fun to watch."
Rubby De La Rosa (2-0) got the win in his first starting assignment thanks to giving up just one run on four hits with five walks and four strikeouts over five innings for the Dodgers, who have won three of four.
Chase Utley and Placido Polanco each drove in a run for the Phillies, who have dropped five of seven. Roy Oswalt (3-4) was touched for four runs on eight hits with two walks and a strikeout over six innings of action.
"We weren't able to capitalize on the opportunities that we had," said Utley. "Some of the credit has to go to their guy, but we had some pitches to hit and we didn't."
The Dodgers struck in the second inning to take the lead as Kemp led off with a double and came home three batters later on a Dioner Navarro single.
The Phils loaded the bases with no outs in the second, but were only able to get one run. Oswalt struck out for the first out and Shane Victorino hit a grounder back to the mound that saw a forceout at home. Polanco then walked to force in a run, but Utley flied out to end the inning.
Los Angeles went back on top in the third. De La Rosa led off with a walk, Gordon followed with a single and Casey Blake got a run across with a basehit. Oswalt then attempted a pickoff of Blake at first base, but Ryan Howard was no where near the bag and the ball sailed away, allowing Gordon to score. Andre Ethier then punched a single to center for a 4-1 lead.
The score stayed that way until the seventh when Utley hit a triple to score Victorino, who reached base on a fielder's choice, to make it a 4-2 game.
However, the Dodgers added to their lead in the eighth off of Michael Stutes when Ethier led off with a walk and Kemp followed with a two-run homer for a 6-2 lead.
