Lee still winless, but Phillies blast Mets to take series

May 31, 2012 - 5:03 AM Flushing, NY (Sports Network) - The Phillies rallied for a win, though not for snakebitten starter Cliff Lee.

The left-hander will enter June winless despite his team's 10-6 victory over the New York Mets on Wednesday night in the rubber match of a three-game set.

Carlos Ruiz pinch-hit for Lee in the seventh inning and hit a two-run homer to tie the game, and Philadelphia went ahead on Shane Victorino's sacrifice fly an inning later before running away with it.

"[Ruiz has] been a great catcher ever since I've been involved with him. He's starting to prove it even more with the bat," Lee said.

Lee remained 0-2 after eight starts despite an earned run average that reached 3.00 only after he gave up three runs on seven hits and two walks to the Mets. He struck out seven.

The Phillies bookended the series with wins, moving to 6-2 in their last eight games.

Jimmy Rollins hit a three-run homer to highlight a six-run ninth inning and Ty Wigginton had a solo homer and two RBI, finishing 6-for-11 in the series with two home runs and eight RBI.

Mets starter Dillon Gee yielded two runs in 6 2/3 innings and Lucas Duda hit two homers for three RBI.

"When you know you're going up against Lee, you know you got to be pretty good, and luckily I was able to go out there and give a solid effort," Gee said.

Lee got double plays in the second and third -- facing the minimum in both innings -- and pitched around two singles in the fourth before going 1-2-3 again in the fifth.

The Mets took a 3-1 lead in the sixth after Scott Hairston doubled and Duda knocked his first homer of the game deep over the right-center field fence.

But Brian Schneider doubled with two outs in the seventh, knocking Gee out of the game, and Ruiz hit his eighth homer of the season off Bobby Parnell to tie the game at 3-3.

Antonio Bastardo (2-1) pitched the seventh for Philadelphia, working around a single by Andres Torres, and Juan Pierre led off the eighth with a base hit against Jon Rauch (3-4). Pierre went to third on Hunter Pence's single and slid ahead of the tag on Victorino's sac fly to center to make it 4-3.

The Phillies scored six runs in the ninth inning against three Mets pitchers. Rollins stroked a three-run shot into the upper deck above right field while Wigginton had an RBI double and Victorino added a two-run single.

Duda hit his second homer of the game, and seventh of the season, leading off the ninth against Raul Valdes. Andres Torres added an RBI double before the Phils brought in closer Jonathan Papelbon, who gave up an RBI single to Daniel Murphy before getting the last out.

Earlier, Murphy walked in the first inning and scored after running through a stop sign from Mets third base coach Tim Teufel on David Wright's double off the center field wall, sliding to beat the tag at home for a 1-0 lead.

Wigginton led off the second inning with a long homer to left field, his fifth of the season, to tie the game.
