Omar Infante hit a solo homer and scored twice for the Tigers, who have won four of five. Victor Martinez knocked in a run.
Detroit starter Doug Fister (4-0), making his 100th career start, allowed three runs on six hits over seven innings. The right-hander had eight strikeouts.
"He pitched very well and the bullpen did a good job," Tigers manager Jim Leyland said.
Chris Johnson, Evan Gattis and Dan Uggla had an RBI apiece for the Braves, who went 3-7 on a 10-game road trip.
Atlanta starter Mike Minor (3-2) gave up six runs on six hits over 6 2/3 innings. The left-hander fanned six and walked two.
The Tigers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third. With one out, Brayan Pena walked and Infante singled. Jackson followed with a blast over the wall in left-center field.
The Braves quickly tied the game in the fourth. Justin Upton singled and Freddie Freeman was hit by a pitch. Johnson's RBI double to right and Gattis' run-scoring single to right cut the gap to one. Uggla plated the tying run when he grounded into a fielder's choice.
Detroit went back in front in the sixth. Cabrera led off with a ground-rule double to left-center field, advanced to third on Prince Fielder's groundout and scored on Martinez's sacrifice fly.
The Tigers broke the game open with a four-run seventh. Infante started things with a two-out homer to left. Jackson walked before Cory Gearrin took over on the mound for Minor. Torii Hunter singled before Cabrera's homer to right made it an 8-3 contest.
"He hits the ball over the right-field fence like a left-handed pull hitter," Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said of Cabrera.
Atlanta put its first two men on base in the ninth. Al Alburquerque walked Uggla and hit Reed Johnson with a pitch. Jose Valverde came in from the bullpen to record the final three outs.
Game Notes
The Braves went 2-for-12 with runners in scoring position and stranded eight ... The Tigers outscored Atlanta by a 25-7 margin over the three-game sweep, their first against a National League club since winning six in a row against the Pirates and Nationals in June 2010.
