Markakis, Davis power O's past Rangers

Jun 5, 2014 - 6:40 AM Arlington, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Nick Markakis and Chris Davis went deep to help power the Baltimore Orioles to a 6-5 win over the Texas Rangers on Wednesday.

Markakis extended his hitting streak to nine games after going 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI, including what proved to be the game-winning single in the sixth inning. Former Ranger Nelson Cruz had three hits and scored twice and Adam Jones drove in a pair for Baltimore, winners in four straight on the heels of a four-game slide.

"We have been doing what we need to do," Markakis said of the offense. "Sometimes you're going to pitch and not hit, and sometimes you're going to hit and not pitch. Lately, we have been on the same page."

Bud Norris (4-5) got knocked around for five runs on six hits in five innings of work, but earned the win thanks to Baltimore's offense. Zach Britton worked around two hits in the ninth to nail down his fifth save.

Adrian Beltre produced all five Texas runs, homering twice in the Rangers' fourth defeat in their last five games. Beltre has three home runs in this series.

"I'm getting lucky I guess," Beltre said of his recent hitting. "You obviously feel good when you help the team, but it's nothing different."

Nick Martinez (1-2) was touched for all six runs -- four earned -- on nine hits in 5 1/3 innings to absorb the loss.

Jonathan Schoop started the sixth with a single to left. He moved to second on David Lough's walk, Caleb Joseph moved both runners with a sacrifice bunt and Markakis put Baltimore in front to stay, 6-5, with an RBI single to left.

The O's later had the bases loaded against Shawn Tolleson, but Jones hit into a fielder's choice.

T.J. McFarland came on in the sixth after Norris was sidelined with an undisclosed arm injury and exited with two down in the seventh. Darren O'Day recorded the last out in that frame and then kept Texas off the board in the eighth.

Britton fanned pinch-hitter Michael Choice to end the contest.

Baltimore quickly jumped in front as Jones grounded a sharp single off Rougned Odor's glove at second base, easily plating Cruz from second as the ball trickled into center field. Beltre put his Rangers in front with an opposite field, two-run blast in the home half, one batter after Mitch Moreland walked.

Martinez coughed up the lead in the third inning, yielding a leadoff homer to Markakis. Manny Machado then doubled and Cruz reached base for the second straight time on a Luis Sardinas' throwing error. Jones made it 3-2 with his RBI single to center and after Davis walked, and J.J. Hardy lifted a sacrifice fly to right for a two-run edge.

Davis' solo homer in the fifth made it 5-2, but Beltre tied it with one swing of the bat a half-inning later. Sardinas started a two-out rally with a single to center, Moreland followed with an infield single and after fouling off three pitches -- all with two strikes -- then Beltre took a Norris offering over the wall in right center.
