Rios leads Rangers over Orioles
Jun 6, 2014 - 4:01 AM Arlington, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Alex Rios drove in the eventual winning run in the seventh inning as the Texas Rangers grabbed an 8-6 victory over the Baltimore Orioles in the finale of a three-game series.Michael Choice hit a two-run homer and Mitch Moreland drove in two runs for the Rangers, who had dropped four of five coming into the game.
Texas starter Colby Lewis was tagged for five runs on seven hits in just five innings of work. Robbie Ross Jr. (2-4) pitched two flawless innings to get the win.
Adam Jones hit a solo home run and drove in three for the Orioles, who had a four-game winning streak broken, while Nick Markakis added a two-run shot.
Chris Tillman was chased from the game in the second inning after allowing five runs on six hits. Brian Matusz (2-2) allowed two unearned runs in the seventh to take the loss.
With the score tied at 5-5 in the seventh, the Rangers' Rougned Odor reached on an infield single and took second when J.J. Hardy's throw to first was off. Odor advanced to third on a Shin-Soo Choo groundout, then scored on another error by Hardy on an Elvis Andrus grounder.
Later in the frame, RBI singles from Rios and Chris Gimenez made it an 8-5 game.
Jones' homer to start the eighth got the Orioles closer, but Tanner Scheppers got out of the inning without any more damage.
Joakim Soria then pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for his 12th save of the season.
Moreland singled home two runs in the first inning, then the Rangers added three more in the second.
Leonys Martin singled to start the bottom of the frame and Choice followed with his fourth home run of the season. Back-to-back walks from Odor and Choo were followed by an RBI single from Andrus for a 5-0 lead.
Markakis' two-run home run in the third got Baltimore on the board, while Jones hit a two-run double in the fifth and Chris Davis followed with an RBI single to tie the game.
Game Notes
Texas hosts Cleveland for four games starting on Friday ... Baltimore hosts Oakland for three games beginning on Friday ... Texas went just 4-for-16 with runners in scoring position ... Baltimore had won seven straight against Texas.
