Stroman, Blue Jays down Red Sox
Jul 30, 2014 - 2:30 AM Boston, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - Marcus Stroman tossed seven innings of one- run ball and the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Boston Red Sox, 4-2, in the middle test of a three-game set.Stroman (7-2) struck out eight and allowed six hits and two walks over seven innings for the Blue Jays, who have won seven of their last eight games.
Casey Janssen gave up a leadoff homer to Xander Bogaerts in the ninth, but recorded the final three outs in succession to pick up his 17th save of the season.
Colby Rasmus smacked a solo shot among his pair of hits and runs scored, while Anthony Gose drilled a two-run double to highlight his two-hit night and scored a run in the triumph.
Rubby De La Rosa (3-4) surrendered three runs on nine hits and two walks over six frames for Boston, which has dropped seven of its last eight contests.
The game was tied 1-1 before the Blue Jays plated two in the fourth to go ahead.
Juan Francisco and Rasmus singled to begin the frame and Munenori Kawasaki moved both runners over with a sacrifice bunt. Ryan Goins stuck out before Gose lined his two-run double to right to push across Francisco and Rasmus for a 3-1 Blue Jays advantage.
David Ortiz grounded out with runners on first and second to end the fifth. Brock Holt hit a two-out double in the seventh, but was stranded there after Daniel Nava flied out.
Aaron Sanchez and Brett Cecil combined to toss a scoreless eighth. Toronto added an insurance run in the ninth when Gose and Reyes hit one-out singles to put runners on the corners. Melky Cabrera brought him home Gose with a groundout.
Earlier, Rasmus cracked his solo shot with one out into the front row of seats in dead center in the second to open the scoring before the Red Sox knotted the game in the third on a Pedroia two-out RBI double.

Stroman has yielded just one earned run over 14 innings against the Red Sox this year ... The Blue Jays were 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position, while Boston finished 0-for-4.
