Bourn's walk-off HR lifts Indians past Rockies
Jun 1, 2014 - 11:02 PM Cleveland, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Michael Bourn ended Sunday's series finale with a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning, giving the Cleveland Indians a 6-4 win and three-game sweep of the Colorado Rockies.Scott Atchison (2-0) struck out the side in the top of the ninth inning for the Indians, who last swept Colorado at home from June 14-16, 2005.
Adam Ottavino (0-2) got the nod in the bottom of the ninth and served up a leadoff single to Mike Aviles, who moved into scoring position on George Kottaras' sacrifice bunt. Bourn followed with his first career walk-off home run.
"Not only my first career walk-off home run, but we were able to complete the sweep," said Bourn. "Builds momentum within the team."
Cleveland starter Josh Tomlin struck out eight in 5 2/3 innings, while Michael Brantley finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Bourn scored twice.
Jhoulys Chacin remained winless on the year after yielding four runs over five innings for the Rockies, who went 2-7 on a nine-game road trip. Chacin walked five and fanned four.
"He struggled early with command," Rockies manager Walt Weiss said of his starter. "Made it tough, he got through five innings ... but he labored through it for the most part."
Chacin struggled with his command early on, walking Bourn and Asdrubal Cabrera to start the bottom of the first inning. Bourn scored from second on Brantley's single to center for the first run before Chacin had recorded an out.
A poor decision by catcher Jordan Pacheco to try to throw Brantley out at second on Lonnie Chisenhall's dribbler loaded the bases for Jason Giambi, who drew a walk to force in a second run. David Murphy made it 3-0 with a sacrifice fly to left.
Colorado got a pair back on Corey Dickerson's two-run homer to right in the second inning. Justin Morneau led off the frame by reaching base on Aviles' error.
Morneau's RBI groundout in the top of the third briefly knotted the score at 3-3, but Brantley doubled to lead off the home half and scored two batters later on Chisenhall's sac fly to restore Cleveland's advantage.
Tomlin retired nine straight to end his stint and Josh Outman struck out Dickerson to end the sixth, but Bryan Shaw lost the lead in the seventh. The Rockies manufactured a run after Brandon Barnes led off with a double. D.J. LeMahieu bunted Barnes to third and Charlie Blackmon lifted a sac fly into center.
