Arenado extends hitting streak to 27; Rockies rout Rangers
May 8, 2014 - 6:39 AM Arlington, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Nolan Arenado extended his hitting streak to 27 games in the Colorado Rockies' 9-2 victory over the Texas Rangers on Wednesday.Arenado, who went 3-for-5 with two RBI, tied teammate Michael Cuddyer's club record 27-game tear from last season.
"I'm trying to stay within myself, I'm not trying to get too big, or trying to hit the home run," Arenado said. "I'm just trying to hit the ball hard. I'm going to keep on saying that until the year is over."
Corey Dickerson knocked in two runs for the Rockies, who have won three straight against Texas this week. Carlos Gonzalez hit a solo homer.
Jorge De La Rosa (4-3) allowed two runs on three hits with three walks over six innings.
Adrian Beltre hit a two-run homer for the Rangers, who saw starter Colby Lewis (2-2) give up seven runs on 12 hits over 3 2/3 innings.
"We're struggling a little bit and we've run into a red-hot team," Rangers manager Ron Washington said. "Everything Colby threw up in the strike zone, they hit and they hit hard. They are swinging the bats well."
The Rockies jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. With two outs, Troy Tulowitzki singled and Gonzalez doubled. Arenado followed with a two-run double to left.
Colorado tacked on five more runs in the fourth. Drew Stubbs led off with a single, stole second, advanced to third on Robinson Chirinos' throwing error and scored on Michael McKenry's single to left. D.J. LeMahieu and Charlie Blackmon followed with consecutive singles to plate another run. Blackmon stole second to put men on second and third.
Dickerson and Tulowitzki hit back-to-back sacrifice flies before Gonzalez's homer.
Beltre's two-run homer in the bottom half of the frame cut the gap to 7-2.
But the Rockies scored two more runs off Scott Baker in the fifth. LeMahieu tripled to bring home Stubbs, who led off the frame with a double. Dickerson added an RBI single.
Game Notes
Beltre became only the fifth player in major league history with 100 home runs for three different teams ... Texas second baseman Donnie Murphy left the game with a neck strain after tripping over first base trying to beat out a grounder to end the sixth ... In three straight victories over the Rangers, the Rockies have a combined 29 runs for 50 hits ... Baker, called up from Triple-A Round Rock before the game, gave up two runs on four hits over 5 1/3 innings.
