Final
Ramos, Nationals down Mets
Sep 15, 2014 - 12:45 AM Flushing, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Wilson Ramos' two-run home run led the Washington Nationals in a 3-0 win over the New York Mets in the finale of a four-game set on Sunday.Jordan Zimmermann (12-5) won his sixth straight decision as he gave up just six hits and a walk with five strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings for the Nationals, who have won six of eight.
"We need to play good tomorrow if we want to get to where we want to get to," said Washington manager Matt Williams.
Washington now leads Atlanta by 10 1/2 games for first place in the NL East.
Jon Niese (8-11) allowed two runs on six hits over seven innings for the Mets, who lost three of four in this set.
"We will continue to make sure our young players improve and learn from the mistakes they make," said New York manager Terry Collins. "It should be a really tremendous division next year."
New York got a one-out triple from Wilmer Flores in the second, but Zimmermann stranded him there as he got Curtis Granderson to fly out and Anthony Recker to look at strike three.
The Mets left runners at the corners in third, and left the bags loaded in the fourth as Ruben Tejada lined out and Niese fouled out.
New York left two more on in the fifth and one more in the sixth, while Zimmermann got the first two outs of the seventh before Matt Thornton got Daniel Murphy to ground out end the inning.
In the visitors half of the seventh, Ian Desmond singled to lead off, moved to second on Bryce Harper's sacrifice bunt, and came home when Ramos homered to right for a 2-0 lead.
Desmond scored on a error by Tejada in the ninth to account for the final score.
