Mets top Fish for 6th straight win
Apr 18, 2015 - 4:22 AM Flushing, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Bartolo Colon tossed seven solid innings of one-run ball and the New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins in the second test of a four-game set.Colon's (3-0) lone run came on a Giancarlo Stanton solo homer in the first inning. He settled down to scatter just five more hits the rest of his outing to go with five strikeouts for the Mets, who have won six straight.
"Just got to continue to play well," New York manager Terry Collins said.
Michael Cuddyer went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored and Jeurys Familia fired a scoreless ninth for his fifth save of the season.
Stanton's blast to dead center was the fifth straight game he's homered against the Mets.
"Other than Giancarlo's home run we just couldn't get anything going," Marlins manager Mike Redmond said.
Miami has dropped five of its last seven games.
The Mets didn't record a hit over their first four innings before plating a run in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth to jump in front. They then tacked on another run in the eighth.
Eric Campbell and Anthony Recker worked one-out walks around a Wilmer Flores single to load the bases. Colon poked a sacrifice fly out to right field, plating Campbell to tie it.
Consecutive base hits by Juan Lagares, Lucas Duda and Cuddyer against Brad Hand (0-1) to begin the sixth gave the Mets the lead. Daniel Murphy's groundout moved Duda and Cuddyer to second and third and Duda crossed the plate on a Campbell sac fly to right.
Back-to-back one out doubles by Cuddyer and Murphy in the eighth made it 4-1.
