Bumgarner outduels Kershaw in Giants' win

Apr 29, 2015 - 6:27 AM Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Madison Bumgarner outdueled Clayton Kershaw in a showdown between two of baseball's best arms on Tuesday night.

Bumgarner struck out nine over eight innings, and the San Francisco Giants ended the Los Angeles Dodgers' eight-game home winning streak with a 2-1 victory.

Bumgarner (2-1) allowed a run on five hits with one walk.

Batterymate Buster Posey homered and hit an RBI single to support Bumgarner's gem.

"It just goes to show you when (Bumgarner) is on, you don't have to score a lot," said Posey.

Joaquin Arias went 3-for-3 and Angel Pagan added two hits and scored a run for the Giants, who bounced back from an 8-3 loss Monday in the opener of this three-game series.

Kershaw (1-2) gave up two runs on seven hits and struck out eight with no walks over his seven innings.

"I gave up two (runs), he gave up one. He pitched eight innings, I pitched seven," said Kershaw. "I got outpitched."

The Giants staked Bumgarner to a lead before he took the mound. Pagan doubled with two outs in the first and scored on Posey's single.

Posey made it 2-0 with a leadoff blast to center field in the fourth, but the Dodgers got on the board in the bottom of the inning.

Jimmy Rollins led off with a single and Pagan misplayed a Kike Hernandez fly ball to center field into a double. Rollins eventually scored on a fielder's choice.

Bumgarner ran into trouble after retiring the first two batters in the fifth. A.J. Ellis walked and Kershaw reached on an error by the shortstop Arias, but Rollins grounded out to end the inning.

Bumgarner allowed only two more baserunners before completing his outing with a 1-2-3 eighth.

Santiago Casilla pitched a perfect ninth to earn his sixth save.
