Final
Ramirez, Rays blank O's
May 31, 2015 - 1:48 AM Baltimore, MD (SportsNetwork.com) - Erasmo Ramirez tossed seven scoreless innings to lead the Tampa Bay Rays in a 3-0 win over the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday.Ramirez (3-2) allowed three hits and a walk while striking out seven for the Rays, who snapped a six-game losing streak. Joey Butler and Steven Souza hit solo home runs in the win.
"With the losses we've had we really hadn't gotten blown out," said Souza. "They've all been close games that we've just lost, so winning a close one here can really get the morale going."
Wei-Yin Chen (1-4) pitched seven innings and was touched for three runs on six hits with a walk and four strikeouts for the Orioles, who had won four of six coming in.
"He threw the ball really good, but early in the game he made some mistakes and they jumped on them," said Baltimore manager Buck Showalter about Chen. "After that he really bore down and gave us a nice outing."
Tampa scored a run in each of the first three innings as Evan Longoria's sac fly in the first plated Brandon Guyer, who led off with a double and moved to third on Butler's single.
Souza led off the second with his ninth home run of the year, and Butler smacked a two-out shot in the third for his third of the year and a 3-0 lead.
Baltimore nearly scored in the fifth as Ryan Flaherty singled to left with two outs and Steve Clevenger on second, but Butler threw a strike to the plate and Clevenger was tagged for the final out of the inning.
The Orioles did not have a baserunner after the fifth, with Brad Boxberger tossing a 1-2-3 ninth for his 14th save of the season.
