Blue Jays rout Red Sox for 11th straight win

Jun 14, 2015 - 11:58 PM Boston, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - Ryan Goins hit a three-run homer and drove in five runs as the Toronto Blue Jays won an 11th straight game with a 13-5 rout of the Boston Red Sox on Sunday.

Danny Valencia added a two-run homer for the Blue Jays, who pounded out 16 hits. Russell Martin went 3-for-4 with two RBI and three runs scored.

Toronto starter Marco Estrada (4-3) allowed five runs on seven hits with three walks over five innings.

The Blue Jays' 11-game winning streak matches their all-time high. It has been done three other times, with the most recent streak happening in June 2013.

David Ortiz hit a three-run homer for the Red Sox, who have lost six in a row. Hanley Ramirez and Dustin Pedroia had one RBI apiece.

Eduardo Rodriguez (2-1) got rocked Sunday after breezing through his first three major league starts. The left-hander gave up nine runs on eight hits with three walks over 4 2/3 innings.

According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Rodriguez was the first pitcher in baseball history to go at least six innings while allowing no more than one run or three hits in each of his first three big league games.

"He's been great and you can tell why and he's going to be great, but we're some kind of hot right now," Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said.

Boston's best chance to score early came in the first. With the bases loaded and one out, Xander Bogaerts lined into a double play.

The Blue Jays exploded for six runs in the fourth. Josh Donaldson, Jose Bautista and Edwin Encarnacion hit three straight singles to plate a run. Martin added an RBI single two batters later. Valencia then worked a walk to load the bases with one out.

Another run scored when Pedroia had problems finding Kevin Pillar's fly ball in the sun. Goins followed with a three-run homer to right.

Toronto tacked on four more runs in the fifth. Encarnacion worked a two-out walk and scored all the way from first when Pedroia lost Chris Colabello's fly ball in the sun. Martin's RBI double and Valencia's two-run homer made it 10-0.

The Red Sox responded with five runs in the bottom half. Rusney Castillo walked, moved to third on Blake Swihart's single and raced home on Pedroia's single to right, which Bautista lost in the sun. After Brock Holt flied out, Ramirez hit an RBI single to center. Ortiz followed with a three-run homer to right.

"We're not in a good place right now as a team, but it's not because we're not giving effort," Boston manager John Farrell said. "We're not executing completely."

The Blue Jays scored three more runs in the seventh. Goins' two-run double and Jose Reyes' RBI double made it a 13-5 game.

Pedroia has hit in each of his last 14 home games ... Boston recalled infielder Travis Shaw from Triple-A Pawtucket and optioned pitcher Matt Barnes to Pawtucket ... Rodriguez had struck out seven in each of his first three starts.
