Arenado powers Rockies over Diamondbacks

Jun 24, 2015 - 4:37 AM Denver, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - Nolan Arenado belted a pair of homers and drove in four runs to power Colorado to a 10-5 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks in the opener of a three-game series.

Arenado's three-run blast to left-center highlighted a six-run fifth inning. Wilin Rosario, DJ LeMahieu and Brandon Barnes also went deep for the Rockies, who have won three in a row following a five-game skid.

"We're starting to swing the bats and see the offense come alive. When we have an opportunity to show up we cash in. It's nice to see the offense take off," Rockies manager Walt Weiss said.

Kyle Kendrick (3-9) allowed eight hits and four runs over six innings to snap a three-decision losing streak.

Chase Anderson (3-2) was shelled for eight hits and eight runs over 4 2/3 innings and suffered his first loss since April 27 against the Rockies.

"He just elevated the ball too much and they had good at-bats against him," Arizona manager Chip Hale said.

A.J. Pollock, Welington Castillo and Nick Ahmed homered for the Diamondbacks, who won four of their previous five road contests.

Pollock's shot to right-center extended Arizona's lead to 4-2 in the fifth, but the Rockies went ahead in the bottom portion. Charlie Blackmon's bloop double down the left-field line was just beyond the reach of David Peralta. The hit scored Barnes. After LeMahieu walked, Blackmon came home on Troy Tulowitzki's single to center. Arenado then sent a 2-1 pitch from Anderson over the wall in left-center. One out later, Rosario homered to left to end Anderson's night on the mound.

LeMahieu homered to left-center off David Hernandez to begin the seventh.

Paul Goldschmidt scored on Aaron Hill's fielder's choice grounder in the top of the eighth before Barnes went deep in the bottom half for his first homer of 2015.

Castillo hit a two-run homer and Ahmed followed with a shot to left in the top of the second before the Rockies scored in the home half on Nick Hundley's RBI single.

Arenado started the fourth with his 18th homer of the year, a shot to left.

Game Notes

Before this game, Anderson had not allowed a home run in his last eight road starts and only three home runs this season ... Pollock and Peralta each had three hits ... The Rockies went 4-for-5 with runners in scoring position.
