Soriano hit in seventh sparks Cubs to win over Marlins

Aug 17, 2008 - 8:43 PM MIAMI (Ticker) -- Alfonso Soriano's two-run double ignited an eight-run seventh inning as the Chicago Cubs rallied for a 9-2 victory over the Florida Marlins on Sunday.

After being held to four hits through six innings by Marlins starter Chris Volstad, Chicago erupted against the Marlins' bullpen. Soriano's hit against Renyel Pinto (2-5) tied the game and Aramis Ramirez put Chicago ahead with another two-run double off Pinto, who yielded five runs while only retiring two batters.

Kosuke Fukudome contributed a sacrifice fly and Reed Johnson completed the uprising with a three-run double off Logan Kensing.

The rally made a winner of Ryan Dempster (14-5), who yielded two runs and five innings in six innings with two walks and 10 strikeouts.
