Cubs shoot for 10th straight road win vs. Marlins
Aug 16, 2008 - 10:12 AM Chicago (75-47) at Florida (63-60) 7:10 pm. EDTMIAMI (Ticker) -- The Chicago Cubs aim to build off a rare win at Dolphin Stadium and extend their longest road winning streak in 63 years on Saturday against the Florida Marlins.
Daryle Ward belted a pinch-hit, three-run homer in the ninth inning to help the Cubs to a 6-5 victory on Friday - their ninth straight road win. Chicago snapped a nine-game skid in Florida.
Chicago was also swept in a three-game series with Tampa Bay earlier this season.
"It feels good to win - this was my first win as a Cubs manager in Florida," Lou Piniella said.
Chicago has won 15 of 18 overall and leads Milwaukee (70-53) by 5 1/2 games in the National League Central. The Cubs hope to stay hot behind Sean Marshall (2-2, 3.55 ERA), who is forced to make a spot start due to Wednesday's doubleheader against Atlanta.
Marshall has been working in the bullpen, and has not started since July 6. The lefthander allowed one run and six hits in six innings of a 7-1 win over St. Louis. Florida, which trails the New York Mets (66-56) by 3 1/2 games in the NL East, counters with Anibal Sanchez (1-2, 4.08).
The 24-year-old righthander is making his fourth start since returning from shoulder surgery. On Monday, Sanchez allowed three runs and six hits with a career-high equaling eight strikeouts in a 4-2 loss to St. Louis.
