Tigers-Indians postponed by rain after 4 innings

May 8, 2010 - 3:59 AM CLEVELAND(AP) -- The Detroit Tigers and Cleveland Indians put up 13 runs in only four innings.

Too bad none of them count.

Their game Friday night was postponed by rain after a delay of 2 hours, 12 minutes and all records were washed away. That includes a two-run homer by the Tigers' Miguel Cabrera, a three-run shot by Cleveland's Travis Hafner and a solo homer by the Indians' Grady Sizemore that would have been his first since Aug. 27.

No makeup date was immediately announced. The teams are scheduled to play Saturday at 1:05 p.m. Cleveland is seeking to snap a four-game losing streak and the Tigers will try to avoid losing four in a row for the first time since Sept. 8-12.

"The good news was the guys battled back from an early hole and Grady got untracked," Indians manager Manny Acta said after Cleveland's five-run third inning made it 7-6.

Tigers starter Jeremy Bonderman, staked to a 7-1 lead, gave up six consecutive hits in the third.

"It was just a matter of making bad pitches," Tigers manager Jim Leyland said. "Those pitches, you can't miss them."

Indians starter David Huff was upset at allowing eight hits and seven runs over 2 2-3 innings - the shortest of his 29 career starts.

"I couldn't locate my fastball and didn't follow the game plan," Huff said. "The only good thing I can take from this is it turned into a practice game in which I hopefully learned a few things."

Tigers outfielder Johnny Damon returned to the lineup after leaving Wednesday's game with a spasm in his right calf, but Indians shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera continued to sit out with a strained left quadriceps.

NOTES: Cleveland activated RHP Kerry Wood from the disabled list and optioned RHP Jensen Lewis to Triple-A Columbus. Wood has yet to pitch this season. He strained a muscle in his upper back during spring training. ... Miguel Cabrera's washed-out two-run homer kept him from adding to his impressive numbers against Cleveland. Since joining the Tigers in 2008, the first baseman has hit .331 (53 of 160) with 11 homers and 35 RBIs in 39 games against the Indians.
