Mets look to score often vs. Williams, Nationals
Apr 28, 2007 - 3:17 PM NY Mets (13-8) at Washington (8-15) 7:05 pm EDTWASHINGTON (Ticker) - Coming off a loss to the lowly Washington Nationals, the New York Mets hope to bounce back Saturday.
The Mets came into Friday's series opener coming with a major-league best .295 average but were just 3-for-12 with runners in scoring position in a 4-3 loss.
On Saturday, the Mets will face righthander Jerome Williams, who is in search of his first win of the season. Williams (0-4, 7.77 ERA) has allowed 21 runs - 19 earned - and 26 hits in his last 22 innings.
Williams will be opposed by veteran lefthander Tom Glavine, who is gunning for his 294th career win. Glavine (3-1, 3.07) boasted a 2.25 ERA in 24 innings against the Nationals last year.
Austin Kearns has been hot for Washington, hitting .382 (13-for-34) in his last nine games. Kearns hit a three-run homer in the first inning Friday off Oliver Perez.
