Buehrle goes for 150th career win as White Sox host A's

Apr 11, 2011 - 3:01 PM (Sports Network) - Chicago southpaw Mark Buehrle seeks his 150th career win against one of his least favorite opponents tonight when the White Sox visit McAfee Coliseum for the first of three games with the Oakland Athletics.

Buehrle, who's won 149 of 259 big-league decisions since the White Sox chose him in the 38th round of the 1998 draft, has had long-term struggles against the Athletics, winning just four times against 13 losses in 26 career meetings.

In 152 1/3 lifetime innings, he's been touched for 153 hits and 81 runs while Athletics batters have hit .261 against him.

The 32-year-old Missouri native got within a win of 150 in his initial start of 2011, when he allowed eight hits and four runs in six innings of a 15-10 triumph at Cleveland on April 1.

A subsequent start at Kansas City resulted in a no-decision after he allowed eight hits and five runs in five innings. The White Sox won the game, 10-7.

Oakland goes with 27-year-old lefty Dallas Braden in his second start of 2010.

The Texas Tech product allowed 10 hits and five runs in seven innings of his initial outing while dropping a 5-3 decision at Toronto.

Braden won a career-best 11 games in his first opportunity as a full-time starter last season with the Athletics, making 30 starts and posting a 3.50 earned run average in 192 2/3 innings.

In three starts against the White Sox, he is 2-0 with a complete game and a 3.22 ERA in 22 1/3 innings.

On Sunday in Minnesota, Brandon McCarthy pitched into the eighth inning and the Athletics got home runs from Hideki Matsui and Josh Willingham to beat the Twins, 5-3, at Target Field.

McCarthy (1-0) was charged with two runs on nine hits in 7 1/3 innings for the A's, who shut out the Twins on Saturday after losing a 2-1 decision in the opener of the three-game set.

In Chicago, Paul Konerko hit a pair of solo homers and Gavin Floyd pitched eight solid innings, as the White Sox handled the Tampa Bay Rays, 6-1, in the finale of a four-game series.

Gordon Beckham also hit a solo home run for the White Sox, who took three out of four in this series to send the Rays to a 1-8 start.

Floyd (1-0) gave up an unearned run on four hits and also struck out eight for Chicago, which is off to a 6-3 start.

The Athletics won five of nine against the White Sox a season ago, but did lose two of three at Chicago.
