White Sox open set with O's at U.S. Cellular Field

Apr 29, 2011 - 3:14 PM (Sports Network) - John Danks hopes for a little bit of run support tonight when the Chicago White Sox open a four-game series against the Baltimore Orioles at U.S. Cellular Field.

Danks is still searching for his first win of the season, but has pitched well, allowing three runs or less in four of his five starts and surrendering four in the other outing. Danks fell to 0-3 on the year on Sunday in Detroit, as the Tigers managed three runs and nine hits in six innings.

Chicago, though, did not score a run in that one and has plated one run or less in three of Danks' starts and has averaged 2.4 runs in his five outings.

"It's unfortunate, because he?s been pitching great every outing, and we ?re not helping him," manager Ozzie Guillen said. "Not at all, and it is a shame."

The left-hander has faced the Orioles seven times and is 4-2 with a 3.64 ERA.

Danks will need to be better than Edwin Jackson was on Thursday in the finale of a four-game set against the New York Yankees. Jackson (2-3) was tagged for six runs on four hits with five walks over four-plus innings in the 12-3 setback.

"It was just one of those cases, not throwing strikes," Jackson said. "You definitely don't help your cause when you walk the bases loaded and put yourself in that predicament."

Carlos Quentin and Alexei Ramirez each drove in a run for the White Sox, who have dropped five of seven.

Baltimore, meanwhile, also enters on a losing note after it was denied a sweep in its three-game set with the Boston Red Sox, falling 6-2 in Thursday's finale. Vladimir Guerrero homered and Derrek Lee knocked in the other run for the Orioles, who have dropped four of six.

Jim Johnson (1-1) took the loss, as he was charged with two runs over one-plus frames of relief. Starter Brad Bergesen lasted six innings and yielded six hits and two runs while fanning five and walking two.

Getting the call for the Orioles tonight will be young right-hander Jake Arrieta, who is 2-1 with a 4.94 ERA. Arrieta did not get a decision on Sunday against the Yankees and surrendered three runs and five hits in six innings. He was in line for the loss, before his team rallied only to fall 6-3 in extra innings.

Arrieta lost his only other start to the Pale Hose, giving up four runs and seven hits with four walks in just four innings.

Baltimore took four of its seven matchups with the White Sox last season.
