Narveson, Norris face off in Houston

(Sports Network) - Chris Narveson tries to bounce back this afternoon from an awful effort his last time out when the Milwaukee Brewers wrap up a three- game set with the Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park.

Narveson was hammered by the Cincinnati Reds on Monday for seven runs and eight hits in just 2 1/3 innings, dropping him to 1-1, while raising his earned run average more than two runs to 4.33.

The 29-year-old lefty, who became just the fifth pitcher in Brewers history to open a season with consecutive starts of at least six innings and no runs allowed, has faced the Astros five times (four starts) and is 0-1 against them with a 3.43 ERA.

Houston, meanwhile, will counter with right-hander Bud Norris, who is 1-1 with a 3.86 ERA. Norris did not get a decision on Tuesday against St. Louis, but pitched well, as he allowed three runs - all unearned - and seven hits in six innings of his team's 6-5 win.

Norris is 2-0 lifetime against the Brewers with a 3.09 ERA in four starts.

Houston won in thrilling fashion on Saturday, as Jason Bourgeois hit a two- out, game-winning single in the bottom of the ninth to give the Astros a 2-1 victory.

Brandon Lyon (3-1) blew a save, but still earned the win when he allowed one run in one inning of relief as Houston snapped a three-game losing streak.

Kameron Loe (2-2) took the loss for the Brewers, who have lost five of their last nine.

Wandy Rodriguez blanked the Brewers through eight innings and allowed seven hits, no walks and struck out six.

"Wandy was absolutely outstanding. He was able to move everything around," Astros manager Brad Mills said of his starter. "He's going to start doing that as he moves along and gains confidence."

Rodriguez was denied a decision, though, when Lyon allowed a one-out, solo shot to right field by Prince Fielder in the bottom of the ninth that tied the game.

"When we get it tied up or get it close, I feel real good about our team. But we haven't been finishing games," Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said.

The Brewers took two of three at home from the Astros last weekend and have won six of the past 10 meetings overall.
