DeJesus powers A's past Indians

Oakland, CA (Sports Network) - David DeJesus clubbed two home runs as the Oakland Athletics beat the Indians 3-1 in a pitching duel between two unbeaten pitchers, Josh Tomlin and Trevor Cahill.

Cliff Pennington and Coco Crisp got the only other hits for the Athletics, who have won five of their last seven contests while evening up a three-game series with the Indians.

Cahill (5-0) got the best of the two pitchers, though, allowing just one run on five hits and striking out five batters for Oakland.

"It was a fortunate day where I came up big," Cahill said. "The bullpen came in and was solid and we got some good hits. It was really a team win."

Tomlin (4-1) was charged with the hard-luck loss for the Indians, despite allowing just three runs -- two earned -- on three hits with no walks and five strike outs.

Travis Hafner drove in the lone run for Cleveland, which had a seven-game win streak snapped.

"Good teams battle," Tomlin said. "That's what we have to do and we did that tonight. We'll come back. We'll battle back."

DeJesus' first homer came in the first, but the Indians tied it back up in the third.

Grady Sizemore doubled to lead off the frame, moved to second on Carlos Santana's walk and scored on Hafner's bloop single.

However in the fourth, Oakland regained the lead, 2-1, on DeJusus' second homer of the game, which stopped a streak of eight batters retired in a row by Tomlin.

The Athletics got their first non-Dejesus hit in the eighth when Pennington ripped a comeback single to put runners on the corners.

That chased Tomlin off the mound and Tony Sipp came in to serve an insurance RBI single to Crisp. Up by two runs, Grant Balfour pitched a shutout ninth to get his first save of the season.

Game Notes

It was DeJesus' first career multi-home run game...Oakland is 12-6 against Cleveland since the start of the 2009 season...The Indians were 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position while the A's were 1-for-1.
