Casey Janssen (2-0) earned the win in an inning of scoreless relief for Kyle Drabek. Drabek went 6 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on three hits with five walks while striking out four.
"It wasn't his best start, but he hung in there," Hill said of Drabek.
Mark Buehrle (4-4) took the loss for the White Sox as he allowed three runs on nine hits and two walks through seven innings.
Escobar led off the first with a single, moved to third on a single by Jose Bautista and came home on a double by Juan Rivera to give Toronto an early one-run advantage.
Juan Pierre tripled with one out in the third and scored on a sacrifice fly by Alexei Ramirez to knot the game at one.
Aaron Hill started the fourth with a single and was followed by a Rajai Davis RBI triple. After Jose Molina grounded out and Jayson Nix walked, Davis broke for the plate in an attempted squeeze bunt, but Escobar whiffed on the try and Davis was tagged out in a rundown. Escobar then grounded out to second to keep it a one-run game.
Chicago loaded the bases with one out in the fifth on an Adam Dunn walk, and singles by Omar Vizquel and Pierre. After Ramirez flew out to shallow right field, Carlos Quentin worked a walk to tie the game at two. Paul Konerko then grounded out to short to end the inning.
The Rays took the lead back for good in the seventh when Nix reached first on a fielder's choice, after he beat out a double-play ball, and then scored on a double by Escobar.
"I got in a lot of jams," Buehrle said. "I pitched out of some, but not enough of them."
Toronto extended its lead in the ninth off of Tony Pena. J.P. Arencibia singled to lead off the frame and consecutive singles by Davis and Molina, after a Hill fly out, scored Arencibia and made the score 4-2.
Jon Rauch started the ninth for the Jays and allowed a one-out single to Pierre, who moved to third on a wild pitch and passed ball. But Rauch struck out Ramirez and got Quentin to ground out to short to end the game and earn his sixth save of the year.
