White Sox, Blue Jays conclude four-game set in Toronto

May 29, 2011 - 2:34 PM (Sports Network) - Last season, John Danks was victorious his first three starts, on the way to a career-high 15-win season. Unfortunately for the left- hander, he hasn't received much run support in 2011 and is still without a triumph.

Danks tries again for his first win of the season today when he takes the mound for the White Sox as they conclude a four-game series in Toronto.

In his most recent appearance, Monday at Texas, Danks allowed nine hits and four runs over eight innings in a complete game performance. Chicago has lost all but one of the 10 games he's started this season and the team has scored more than four runs just once when he takes the mound.

He is the first White Sox pitcher to start the season 0-7 since Neil Allen in 1987.

Danks is 1-3 with a 4.39 ERA in five career starts against Toronto. He suffered the loss in his last start vs. the Blue Jays on May 6, 2010 at U.S. Cellular Field, allowing two runs in seven innings.

Ricky Romero gets the ball today for the Blue Jays trying to win a third consecutive decisions. Over his last three appearances, he's given up a total of two runs, covering 22 2/3 innings. Romero has held right-handed hitters to a .205 average this season.

Romero is 1-0 with a 4.05 ERA in two starts against the White Sox.

On Saturday, Corey Patterson homered in the bottom of the 14th inning to lift the Blue Jays to a 9-8 win.

Chicago starter Gavin Floyd (5-5) entered the game in the 13th and tossed a scoreless inning. But he took the loss after Patterson led off the 14th in dramatic fashion. Floyd delivered a 1-2 fastball down the middle of the plate at about knee-level, and Patterson pulled it over the right field fence.

"I got into a great count," said Floyd, "and I made a really bad pitch."

Patterson was mobbed by his teammates at home plate in celebration of the Blue Jays' second consecutive win. He finished 5-for-7 and scored four times, while Jose Bautista went 3-for-4 and hit his 20th home run of the season.

"I was able to get five hits. Some weren't the hardest hit balls, some squeaked through and I was able to get a couple infield hits. But that last one I thought I hit pretty good," said Patterson.

Luis Perez (1-0) recorded the victory for limiting the White Sox to two hits in the final 3 2/3 innings.

Toronto has won 21 of its last 27 versus Chicago.
