Ramirez powers ChiSox over BoSox

Jun 1, 2011 - 6:45 AM Boston, MA (Sports Network) - Alexei Ramirez went 4-for-5 with three RBI, as the Chicago White Sox held on for a 10-7 victory over the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.

Gordon Beckham added three hits and drove in a run for the White Sox, who won the opener of this three-game series on Monday. Philip Humber (4-3) got the victory after limiting the Red Sox to four runs in 7 2/3 innings.

"They're really good, man -- especially in this ballpark," said Humber of the Red Sox. "Even though we scored 10 runs, no lead is safe against that lineup."

Alfredo Aceves (2-1) allowed eight runs -- six earned -- in five-plus innings and took the loss, Boston's third in a row.

The White Sox took control in the second inning, when they loaded the bases with one out. After Beckham singled to plate one run, an error by Jed Lowrie allowed A.J. Pierzynski to score.

Boston got another out when Aceves threw for the force out at home on a Juan Pierre grounder. But he couldn't quite reach a chopper that Ramirez slapped back up the middle, and two runs scored to make it a 4-0 contest.

Back-to-back doubles by Paul Konerko and Pierzynski in the third gave Chicago another run, but Jason Varitek got it back with a two-out solo blast in the home half.

However, Ramirez's RBI single in the fourth made it a 6-1 contest, and the White Sox tacked on four more runs in the sixth.

Aceves hit Dunn and allowed a single to Beckham before being taken out. Scott Atchison entered to a situation that only got worse when a passed ball allowed the runners to advance into scoring position.

They held on a Brent Morel groundout, but were able to score when Pierre tapped a ball into the ground near home plate. It made an improbably long and high bounce over the head of first baseman Adrian Gonzalez, who was playing slightly in.

Carlos Quentin doubled in Pierre later in the inning, and Konerko's sacrifice fly pushed the White Sox's lead to 10-1.

"I didn't think he executed like he has -- certainly -- the last couple of outings," said Red Sox manager Terry Francona of Aceves. "He wasn't quite as sharp as he's been."

Humber mostly controlled the Red Sox lineup and didn't get into big jams over the first seven innings, while his teammates' offensive output created a large -- and as it turned out, necessary -- cushion.

Josh Reddick doubled with one away in the eighth before scoring on Drew Sutton's base hit. Humber was pulled after allowing a two-out single to Kevin Youkilis.

Will Ohman entered but fell behind David Ortiz, the first batter he faced. He then threw a belt-high fastball that Ortiz hammered over the Green Monster to pull the Red Sox within 10-5.

Boston got within three in the ninth, when Brian Bruney gave up a sacrifice fly to Reddick and an RBI double to Sutton. But the White Sox were too far ahead. Chris Sale entered to strike out Gonzalez and end the game.
