Huff takes the hill for the Indians in finale with Angels

Jul 27, 2011 - 2:34 PM (Sports Network) - Lefty David Huff makes his second start of 2011 today when the Cleveland Indians wrap up a three-game home series with the rubber match against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim at Progressive Field.

Huff debuted for the season on July 18 at Minnesota and allowed just five hits and two walks in seven scoreless innings while defeating the Twins, 5-2.

The 26-year-old was an 11-game winner as a rookie with the Indians in 2009, but stumbled from the gate and was sent to the minors after going 2-11 in 15 starts in 2010.

He went 8-2 in 12 starts with Triple-A Columbus last season and helped pitch the Clippers to an International League championship after going 1-0 with a 1.93 ERA in the playoffs.

Two of his 39 career starts have come against the Angels, with Huff allowing 20 hits and 10 runs in 12 1/3 innings with four walks and four strikeouts.

The Angels reply with right-hander Ervin Santana, who'll make his 11th attempt at a first career defeat of the Indians.

The 28-year-old is 0-6 against Cleveland with a 4.98 ERA across 56 innings, in which he's struck out 44 batters, walked 23 and allowed a .274 batting average.

Santana lost four straight starts this season between June 4 and 21, but has since gone 2-0 in five starts, including a 6-1 win at Baltimore in his most recent start on July 22.

He's 2-3 in 10 road starts this season with a 4.10 ERA.

On Tuesday, Mark Trumbo hit a two-out, two-run double in the seventh inning to account for the winning runs, leading the Angels to a 2-1 victory.

Bobby Abreu and Howie Kendrick added hits and scored on Trumbo's double for the Angels, who have won five of their last seven games.

Jered Weaver (14-4) was dominant again, giving up one run on five hits over seven innings. He fanned five, walked two and won his eighth straight decision.

Jordan Walden overcame a second straight rough outing, getting out of a bases- loaded situation in the ninth to record his 24th save of the season.

Matt LaPorta clubbed a solo home run and rookie Jason Kipnis added a double for the Indians, who have lost five of their last six contests.

Josh Tomlin (11-5) pitched very well in defeat, giving up two runs on four hits over eight innings. He struck out three and walked one.

The Angels won four of their first six versus the Indians this year, with each of those previous meetings taking place in Anaheim.
