Marlins steal another win from Mets

Aug 3, 2011 - 5:47 AM Flushing, NY (Sports Network) - Another night, another deflating loss for Jason Isringhausen and the New York Mets.

After surrendering a 10th-inning grand slam to Mike Stanton in Monday's series-opening loss, Isringhausen allowed two runs in the top of the ninth as the Mets fell, 4-3, to the Florida Marlins.

The Marlins loaded the bases with one down against Isringhausen (2-2) before pinch-hitter Bryan Petersen dribbled a grounder toward second. Justin Turner fielded the ball and made an errant throw to first baseman Lucas Duda, allowing the tying and go-ahead runs to cross the plate.

"That's what happens when you get a break," said Marlins manager Jack McKeon. "We've had our share of breaks go against us, so now we get a break once in awhile. Maybe we're due."

Steve Cishek (2-1) threw two scoreless frames to earn the win, and Leo Nunez recorded his 31st save of the season after entering in the ninth with a runner aboard and closing the door.

Omar Infante belted two home runs for the Marlins, who moved to .500 for the first time since June 12.

The loss ruined a strong outing from starter Chris Capuano, who allowed two runs on four hits over six innings and scored a run.

Jose Reyes added a home run for the Mets, losers of four in a row.

Infante, who had just one home run this year entering the contest, belted solo shots in the first and fifth innings.

The Mets got on the board in the third on Reyes' solo homer.

Capuano helped himself in the bottom of the fifth, reaching with a leadoff single, advancing to third on Turner's ground rule double and scoring on David Wright's groundout.

The Mets grabbed their first lead of the game an inning later. With one down, Angel Pagan lifted a bloop single over short. The ball fell in just shy of the diving Hanley Ramirez, who was removed after injuring his shoulder on the play.

Pagan then stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch by Brian Sanches, who replaced starter Brad Hand to begin the frame, before scoring on Duda's sacrifice fly to right.

With one down in the eighth, the tying run reached second in the form of Infante, but Bobby Parnell struck out Gaby Sanchez and Greg Dobbs to escape unscathed.

In the ninth, however, Logan Morrison drew a leadoff walk and Mike Cameron ripped a one-out single before Isringhausen hit John Buck to load the bases and bring Petersen to the plate.

"My first instinct was to try to tag Buck and get the double play that way," explained Turner. "He did an outstanding job of baserunning by not running into the force and obviously, after that, the wheels kind of fell off with the throw."

Game Notes
