Rios' hit lifts ChiSox over Rangers; Quentin hurts shoulder
Aug 21, 2011 - 4:32 AMVideo
Rios came off the bench in the first inning to play center field after right fielder Carlos Quentin hurt his left shoulder. Alejandro De Aza moved from center to right.
Juan Pierre and Alexei Ramirez had an RBI apiece for the White Sox, who snapped a three-game skid.
Chicago starter John Danks gave up two runs on seven hits over seven innings. Jesse Crain (8-3) pitched a scoreless eighth to pick up the win.
"It was one of the rare games you feel like you get stronger as the game goes on," Danks said. "It was fun, you know? You're facing one of the best teams in all of baseball, (catcher Tyler Flowers) and I were on the same page, it was fun."
Ian Kinsler went 3-for-4 with a pair of solo homers for the Rangers, who have lost two of three since a six-game winning streak.
Alexi Ogando allowed two runs on six hits in a seven-inning start for Texas. Koji Uehara (1-3) gave up one run on two hits in the eighth to take the loss.
"It was just one of those games where the two pitchers that were out there to start game wasn't giving up much," Rangers manager Ron Washington said.
With the score tied at two, Chicago pushed across a run in the eighth to take the lead. Uehara took over on the mound for Ogando and gave up a one-out single to Paul Konerko. Brent Lillibridge came on as a pinch-runner and raced home on Rios' double to the left-field corner. Rios went to third on the throw home. Ramirez popped out and Adam Dunn struck out swinging to keep it a 3-2 game.
Sergio Santos tossed a scoreless ninth for his 26th save of the season.
Kinsler started the game with a homer just inside the left-field foul pole. Craig Gentry followed with a fly ball to Quentin, who made a great diving catch. Quentin landed on his left shoulder and left the game.
Chicago got the run back in the home half. De Aza and Konerko hit consecutive one-out singles to put men on the corners. Two batters later, Ramirez knocked in De Aza with a bloop single to left.
The White Sox tacked on another run in the second to take a 2-1 lead. Flowers led off with a double, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on Pierre's two-out bloop single to left-center field.
Kinsler tied the game with one swing of the bat in the third. With one out, Kinsler hit a solo homer to left to make it 2-2.
The Rangers stranded men on first and second in the fifth and eighth.
