Yankees aim to right ship vs. White Sox

May 15, 2007 - 2:46 PM NY Yankees (17-19) at Chi White Sox (18-16) 8:11 pm EDT

CHICAGO (Ticker) -- The New York Yankees aim to get their offense back on track when they take on the Chicago White Sox in the first game of a three-game series at U.S. Cellular Field on Tuesday.

After a disastrous April, the Yankees looked as if they had righted the ship with six wins in eight games. But New York has not been able to get its bats going in its last four contests, going 1-3.

Despite a vaunted lineup, the Yankees have three key players in prolonged slumps, including Bobby Abreu (2-for-22), Robinson Cano (9-for-63) and Alex Rodriguez (2-for-17).

They wasted another stellar performance from Andy Pettitte on Sunday, failing to hit with runners in scoring position en route to a 2-1 loss at the Seattle Mariners. They lost two of three to the Mariners, including being shut out in Friday's contest.

New York looks to get back behind Mike Mussina (2-1, 4.76 ERA), who will look to win his third consecutive start. The veteran righthander has allowed just three runs and seven hits in 11 innings in two starts since returning from a strained hamstring.

He is 15-15 with a 4.63 ERA in 34 starts against Chicago in his career.

Mussina will be opposed by rookie John Danks (1-4, 4.33), who picked up his first career victory Wednesday in a 6-3 win against the Minnesota Twins. He allowed one run and three hits in 6 2/3 innings.

It will be Danks' first appearance against New York.

Chicago is looking for its fifth win in six games after absorbing an 11-1 loss to the Kansas City Royals on Sunday.
