Brandon Webb searches for some consistency against the Rockies

May 21, 2007 - 2:08 PM Colorado (18-26) at Arizona (24-21) 9:40 pm EDT

PHOENIX (Ticker) -- The Arizona Diamondbacks are staying in the race in the National League West despite some inconsistent pitching.

Last year's Cy Young Award winner Brandon Webb will try to find some consistency when the Diamondbacks host the Colorado Rockies on Monday.

Webb (3-3, 3.57 ERA) leads the rotation in ERA, but has yet to put together a string of good starts. He sandwiched a nine-inning gem on May 11 around two poor outings in which he has given up 11 runs - nine earned - in 12 combined innings.

The last was a 5-3 loss at Colorado on Wednesday, when Webb gave up five runs - four earned - and six hits in six innings.

The veteran sinkerballer will now get his chance for revenge against the Rockies. For his career, Webb owns a 7-6 career record with a 3.75 ERA against Colorado.

The Rockies will counter with Aaron Cook (3-1, 4.40). The 28-year-old righthander picked up a win in his last outing, holding Arizona to three runs over six innings.

The veteran has won his last three starts after a six-start string to open the season without a win.

Colorado dropped two of three over the weekend to the worst team in the American League, the Kansas City Royals. On Sunday, the Rockies came back from four runs down to force extra innings, but lost when reliever Ramon Ramirez surrendered five runs in the 12th inning.

The Diamondbacks were one of two teams not to enjoy interleague play over the weekend, taking two of three from the Pittsburgh Pirates.
