Brewers look for more success away from home
May 21, 2007 - 2:53 PM Milwaukee (27-17) at LA Dodgers (25-19) 10:10 pm EDTLOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- The Milwaukee Brewers are hoping for better results on this road trip than the one they just finished up last week.
The Brewers start a six-game West Coast road swing against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday.
Milwaukee, which had won six straight home games prior to going 2-5 on a seven-game National League East road trip, was nearly swept at Miller Park by the Minnesota Twins over the weekend before rallying from a four-run deficit for a 6-5 victory on Sunday. The Brewers, who own the second-best winning percentage in the National League at .614, are only 10-10 away from home.
Jeff Suppan (5-4, 3.25 ERA) will get the start in the series opener trying to avoid a personal three-game skid after winning each of his five previous decisions. He surrendered six runs - four earned - and nine hits in seven innings of Wednesday's 6-2 loss at Philadelphia.
Suppan is 3-4 with a 3.78 ERA in eight career starts against the Dodgers. The righthander has tossed at least six innings in all but one of his nine starts.
Los Angeles will counter with Brett Tomko (1-4, 5.97), who is 7-1 with a 3.38 ERA in 13 career appearances against the Brewers, including 11 starts. He allowed eight runs and nine hits in just 2 1/3 innings in his last start, an 8-4 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday.
The Dodgers hold a 22-9 advantage at Dodger Stadium over the Brewers since Milwaukee joined the National League in 1998.
Los Angeles absorbed a three-game sweep at the hands of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on Sunday, as Kelvim Escobar threw a three-hitter over eight innings in a 4-1 win.
