Marlins edge Giants to sweep series
May 4, 2012 - 1:08 AMVideo
Sanchez (2-0) scattered seven hits and issued one walk while fanning five and Edward Mujica pitched a scoreless ninth for his first save of the year.
Hanley Ramirez had two runs batted in despite being held hitless while Brett Hayes tallied three hits and scored twice for the Marlins, who have won four of their last six on the heels of a six-game skid.
"Not quite there where we want to be, hitting wise," said Jose Reyes. "But still, we want to win."
Ryan Vogelsong (0-2) allowed two runs -- one earned -- on eight hits and four walks over seven innings of work and Gregor Blanco added three hits and scored twice as the Giants suffered their seventh straight home loss to the Marlins.
Angel Pagan extended his league-leading hit streak to 17 games in the setback with a leadoff single in the seventh.
"We just made some mistakes," said Giants manager Bruce Bochy. "Vogelsong pitched a pretty good game, but we hurt ourselves with little things. When you play a close game, these things come back to get you and that's what happened today."
Miami struck first as Reyes reached on an error to start the game when Brandon Crawford misplayed a ground ball, allowing Reyes to reach second. Emilio Bonifacio then bunted Reyes to third before Ramirez plated him with a groundout to give Miami a 1-0 lead.
Three singles from the Marlins loaded the bases in the second before Ramirez knocked in another run with a fielder's-choice groundout to shortstop, extending the Miami cushion to 2-0.
The Giants got on the board in the sixth as Blanco and Conor Gillaspie singled to start the frame before Blanco scored on Melky Cabrera's double-play groundout to bring the Giants within 2-1.
Miami added some insurance in the eighth as Hayes belted a leadoff double and pinch-hitter Austin Kearns followed with a single before Reyes ripped a single back up the middle to give the Marlins a 3-1 edge.
San Francisco answered with a run in the eighth when Blanco smacked a leadoff double before scoring two batters later on a ground out from Melky Cabrera, but that's all the offense the Giants could muster.
