Diamondbacks pay a visit to Mets
May 4, 2012 - 3:02 PMVideo
Miley, a supplemental draft pick in 2008, debuted in the majors with the Diamondbacks last season and was 4-2 over seven starts in eight appearances while allowing 20 runs on 48 hits in 40 innings.
He began 2012 in the bullpen and made three straight relief outings, picking up a decision in the first of them while combining to allow seven hits and three runs in 8 2/3 innings with two strikeouts.
He started April 23 and 29 against Philadelphia and Miami and won both decisions while allowing a single unearned run across 12 1/3 innings on three hits.
Miley has never faced the Mets.
He's opposed by fellow youngster Dillon Gee, who turned 26 in late April and starts for the fifth time this season.
The Texan reached the majors with five starts at the tail end of 2010 before a breakout season in 2011 in which he went 13-6 with a 4.43 earned run average in 160 2/3 innings.
Gee has alternated losses and wins in his four starts thus far this season, most recently scoring a 7-5 victory at Colorado on April 28 after going seven innings and allowing three earned runs in seven hits.
Overall, he's struck out 23 batters and allowed 16 runs in 26 innings.
Gee has split two career decisions against Arizona.
On Thursday in Washington, rookie Bryce Harper slapped a go-ahead opposite field RBI double in the sixth inning, lifting the Nationals to a 2-1 win over the Diamondbacks in the rubber match of a three-game set.
Ian Kennedy (3-1) was the hard-luck loser - his first loss in 13 starts - after giving up two runs on four hits and a walk in seven innings for Arizona, which has dropped two in a row following a three-game winning streak.
On Wednesday in Houston, Chris Johnson hit two home runs and knocked in a career-high six runs as the Astros defeated the Mets, 8-1, to complete the sweep of a three-game set at Minute Maid Park.
Chris Schwinden (0-1) gave up five runs on six hits and two walks in just four innings to suffer the loss.
Ruben Tejada had three of New York's seven hits, while Andres Torres knocked in the lone run for the Mets, who lost for the fourth time in six games.
New York and Arizona split six matchups a year ago.
