Peavy strong as White Sox pound Indians

May 10, 2012 - 5:20 AM Cleveland, OH (Sports Network) - Jake Peavy threw seven strong innings and the Chicago White Sox pounded Cleveland, 8-1, at a rainy Progressive Field.

Alejandro De Aza's two-run single highlighted a six-run fourth inning, as the White Sox took the final two contests in this four-game series. Adam Dunn belted a two-run homer in the opening inning.

Peavy (4-1) allowed seven hits, a run, walked one and struck out five.

"He's been impressive," White Sox manager Robin Ventura said about Peavy. "There's not much more I can say about him because he's done everything."

Jeanmar Gomez (2-2) was shelled for nine hits and eight runs over 6 2/3 innings.

The start of the game was delayed 64 minutes due to inclement weather.

Dunn clubbed his 10th homer of the season, a shot to right, with one out in the first inning. He then walked to start the big fourth inning in which the first five batters reached safely.

Paul Konerko and A.J. Pierzynski singled to account for the third run. After Alex Rios walked to load the bases, Alexei Ramirez hit a ball to the wall. Left fielder Johnny Damon made a leaping try, but couldn't make the play and the base hit made it 4-0.

One out later, Eduardo Escobar hit a line single to right and De Aza followed with a one-hop base hit into center for a seven-run cushion. Gordon Beckham followed with a sacrifice fly on a ball caught by a diving Damon.

"Gomez just couldn't throw strikes the first four innings. He struggled with his control to a point where in the fourth inning he had more balls than strikes thrown," Indians manager Manny Acta said. "When you're not overpowering you're really not going to get away with it up here and they made him pay for it."

Carlos Santana singled leading off the seventh and scored on a Jason Donald ground ball to account for the final margin.
