Dodgers go for series win over Rockies

May 12, 2012 - 3:06 PM (Sports Network) - The Los Angeles Dodgers shoot for a series win over the Colorado Rockies tonight in the middle portion of a three-game series from Chavez Ravine.

The Dodgers opened the set with Friday's 7-3 victory thanks to home runs by Andre Ethier, Juan Uribe and Mark Ellis. Ethier had three hits, two RBI and two runs scored, while Ellis collected two hits, two runs scored and drove in three runs for the Dodgers, who have won four of six and sit six games ahead of San Francisco for the NL West lead.

Chris Capuano tossed seven innings of one-run ball to push his mark to 5-0 this season. He allowed four hits and did not issue a walk while striking out three batters. The Dodgers improved to 6-1 in Capuano's seven starts.

"Give credit to their left-handed starter. He pitched terrific," Rockies manager Jim Tracy said about Capuano.

Los Angeles is 3-1 so far on an eight-game homestand and will send Aaron Harang to the mound Saturday. Harang, in his first season with LA, is just 1-2 with a 5.24 ERA in six starts and last pitched in Sunday's 4-3 setback to the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. Harang did not post a decision and threw six innings of two-run ball.

The right-hander lost to Colorado on April 30, when he was reached for five runs and six hits in 5 2/3 frames of a 6-2 setback. Harang is just 4-5 with a 5.20 ERA in 11 career starts against the Rockies.

Colorado has lost six of seven games and fell to 1-3 on an eight-game road trip last night. Veteran starter Jamie Moyer gave up five runs on seven hits and a walk with seven strikeouts through five innings.

"He wants you to swing at a ball off the plate," Ellis said about Moyer. "He works those edges really well and the main thing you have to do is see the ball up and not give in to him throwing the ball off the plate."

Michael Cuddyer homered and Dexter Fowler added an RBI triple during a two-run ninth inning for Colorado, which will also visit the Giants for two games. Todd Helton had two hits and scored a run, while Cuddyer ended with two RBI.

The Rockies will hand the ball to Juan Nicasio in Saturday's middle test of this three-game set and he is 2-1 with a 5.35 ERA in six starts. Nicasio was 2-0 in five trips to the hill until losing his most recent start, a 7-2 loss at the hands of the Atlanta Braves in which he was reached for six runs and eight hits over five innings.

Nicasio, a right-hander, defeated the Dodgers on April 30 with six innings of two-run ball during a 6-2 triumph. He is 1-1 in three starts in this series to go along with a 5.94 earned run average.

Colorado took two of three matchups from the Dodgers during that set from April 30 - May 2 at Coors Field.
