Fishing for a win: Lincecum hopes to get on track against Marlins
May 25, 2012 - 2:35 PMVideo
Lincecum is just 2-4 with a career-worst 6.04 earned run average in nine total starts and 0-2 with a 6.43 ERA in his previous four outings. He pitched just four innings in Sunday's 6-2 loss versus Oakland and was reached for four runs and five hits.
The right-hander was involved in a collision at the plate and was removed from the game after 90 pitches.
"I just hyperextended my thumb in my catching hand, nothing bad," Lincecum said.
Lincecum is 1-2 in four away starts this season, but owns a 2-0 mark in three career starts against the Marlins to go with a 2.11 ERA.
San Francisco opened this series with a 14-7 pounding of the Marlins last night, as Melky Cabrera continued his hot month of May by going 3-for-5 with four RBI and three runs scored. Angel Pagan also drove in four runs and Brandon Crawford knocked in a pair of runs for the Giants, winners in nine of their last 13.
"The guys found some holes," said San Francisco manager Bruce Bochy. "It got contagious. You like to see your offense break out. That's something we haven't done, especially against this club."
Giants starter Ryan Vogelsong gave up three runs on seven hits and three walks in 6 1/3 innings, ending his four-start streak of allowing a run or fewer.
Cabrera recorded his MLB-leading 22nd multi-hit game of the season and is batting .421 (40-for-95) in May. He is riding an eight-game hitting streak.
Miami has dropped two in a row since winning three straight and received a poor outing from Anibal Sanchez, who had been 3-0 with two shutouts and a 0.87 ERA in his career against the Giants, but allowed five runs on seven hits and two walks through 5 1/3 innings
"It was one of those outings where everything is working good and you don't have enough good luck," said Sanchez.
Omar Infante had four hits and Giancarlo Stanton continued his hot start by going 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBI. Stanton is batting .315 with nine homers and 23 RBI this month.
The Marlins, who are 2-2 on a 10-game homestand, will hand the ball to Josh Johnson tonight in hopes of him extending his personal winning streak to three games. Johnson posted his second win in a row during Sunday's 5-3 victory at Cleveland and fired seven innings of one-run ball to push his 2012 mark to 2-3 in nine starts to go along with a 4.82 ERA.
Johnson, a right-hander, is 1-2 in four home appearances this season and 0-3 with a 3.18 ERA in five career starts against San Francisco.
Miami swept a three-game set in San Francisco from May 1-3 and has won eight of the past 11 meetings between the two clubs.
