Buerhle aims for fourth straight win, as Fish resume set with Giants

May 26, 2012 - 2:28 PM (Sports Network) - Armed with a personal three-decision winning streak, Mark Buehrle heads back to the mound this afternoon when the Marlins continue their four-game series against the San Francisco Giants.

Since losing to Arizona on April 30, Buehrle is 3-0 over his last four starts. That includes a victory against the Rockies on Monday, when he allowed five hits and four runs over 7 2/3 innings. The difference recently has been run support. The Marlins scored just 13 runs in support of Buehrle in his first five starts, but have erupted for 22 over his last four outings.

The veteran left-hander is 1-1 with a 7.36 ERA in two lifetime games against the Giants.

Madison Bumgarner has fallen on difficult times recently, going 0-2 over his last three appearances, but he's received little offensive support. The southpaw had a season-high 10 strikeouts over a 7 2/3-inning no-decision against the Brewers on Monday, a game the Giants won in 14 innings.

Bumgarner is 0-1 with a 4.50 ERA in two career starts vs. the Marlins.

Last night, Chris Coghlan drilled his first homer in 11 months, a three- run shot as part of a five-run sixth inning, and Giancarlo Stanton smacked his 10th homer of the month as the Marlins hung on for a 7-6 win.

Coghlan was hitting .104 prior to his first homer since last June 11.

"I don't even know what I'm hitting. I just know it's not good," Coghlan said. "You don't think about those things. Every time you step in the box you try to feel like you're hitting 1.000."

Josh Johnson, who allowed two runs or fewer in his prior three starts, surrendered three runs on nine hits and a walk in five frames. He's lowered his ERA from 6.61 on May 4 to 4.87.

Stanton had two hits, two RBI and a pair of runs scored for Miami, which recorded its franchise-record 17th win in May.

Steve Chisek picked up his first save of the season after scuffling All- Star closer Heath Bell gave up two runs on three hits in one-third of an inning before being lifted.

Dan Jennings (1-0) picked up the win with a 1-2-3 sixth frame.

Tim Lincecum (2-5) was charged with six runs on six hits and four walks in 5 2/3 innings. His ERA has ballooned to 6.41 on the year.

"Aside of that (sixth inning), I think I pitched fine," Lincecum said.

Miami swept a three-game set in San Francisco from May 1-3 and has won nine of the past 11 meetings between the two clubs.
