Dodgers hope to build momentum with series win over Rockies

Jun 3, 2012 - 2:39 PM (Sports Network) - After snapping their season-long five-game losing streak, the Dodgers aim to grab the rubber match of a weekend set with the Rockies this afternoon.

Despite the recent skid, the Dodgers still hold the best record in the majors and are four games clear of San Francisco in the NL West going into today's matchup at Coors Field.

The Dodgers turn to Nathan Eovaldi, who will make his eighth career big league start. The 22-year-old right-hander, an 11th-round draft selection in 2008, made his first appearance with the parent club this season on Tuesday, throwing seven innings in a 2-1 loss to Milwaukee.

Eovaldi's only career appearance against the Rockies came last Aug. 28, when he allowed five runs on six hits in four innings and suffering the loss in the Dodgers' 7-6 defeat.

Alex White counters for the Rockies. The righty is 1-0 over his last two starts, this despite allowing a season-high 10 hits along with six runs over five-plus innings of a no-decision vs. Houston. The Rockies won that game, 7-6, in 10 innings.

Yesterday, Aaron Harang tossed six innings of one-run ball as the Dodgers won, 6-2. Harang (4-3) allowed just four hits and three walks while striking out six. Javy Guerra allowed a run in the seventh, but Kenley Jansen closed it out in the ninth.

Elian Herrera went 2-for-5 with a pair of RBI, Andre Ethier knocked in a pair to go with his two hits, Bobby Abreu hit a solo homer and Adam Kennedy contributed an RBI base hit in the win.

"Herrera's been solid," Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said. "He's done a good job and given us quality at-bats when we needed them."

Juan Nicasio (2-3) allowed three runs -- two earned -- on four hits and a walk in just 1 2/3 innings. He left the game in the second inning with a strained left knee and was replaced on the mound by Josh Roenicke.

"It's just a part of the game, nothing we can do about that," Colorado's Carlos Gonzalez said of Nicasio's injury.

Michael Cuddyer and Wilin Rosario had RBI doubles for the Rockies, who had their five-game winning streak halted.

The Dodgers swept a three-game series at home versus the Rockies from May 11-13 after losing two of three in Colorado earlier in the season.
