Athletics seek to extend Rockies' road skid

Colorado has now dropped eight straight at home in interleague play after losing Tuesday's opener to the A's. Brandon Moss hit two home runs to power Oakland to the 8-5 win.
The Rockies scored four in the first inning, but Oakland responded with a six- run third, highlighted by a two-run blast from Moss, who was called up from the minors on Wednesday. He added a solo shot in the fifth while Brandon Inge went 2-for-3 with a homer and two RBI, helping the A's halt a three-game skid.
Bartolo Colon (6-6) got the win, surrendering five runs on nine hits over five innings. Ryan Cook allowed runners to reach first and second in the ninth before recording three straight outs to earn his first career save.
Tyler Colvin and Todd Helton both hit solo home runs for the Rockies, who lost their sixth straight game and fell to 0-7 in interleague play on the season.
"It's a script that we've been following quite a bit," said Rockies manager Jim Tracy. "We did a great job offensively in the first inning and we pitched a very poor third inning."
Heading to the hill for the Rockies tonight will be lefty Josh Outman, who is 0-2 with an 8.18 ERA. Outman lost to Arizona on Wednesday, as he surrendered five runs and seven hits in just three innings.
Since moving from the bullpen Outman has allowed five earned runs in 6 1/3 innings in his first two starts.
"We want to get much more out of him," Tracy said after his last outing. "We want to get much better. We're trying to build him up where you don't have to brace for the start. I think the next time out he'll be able to go upward of 90 pitches. But we're looking for 90 quality pitches."
Outman should be quite familiar with the A's lineup, having spent the first four years of his career in the Oakland organization.
Oakland, meanwhile, will counter with lefty Tommy Milone, who was moved up a day when scheduled starter Brandon McCarthy was scratched with shoulder soreness. Milone will still be pitching on normal rest and is 6-5 on the year with a 3.77 ERA.
Milone, though, is winless in his last three starts and did not get a decision on Friday in Arizona, as he allowed four runs and nine hits in five innings of a 9-8 loss.
Colorado swept the A's the last time the teams played back in 2009 and has won five of the last six matchups.
