Arizona tries to solve Milwaukee's Gallardo

(Sports Network) - The Arizona Diamondbacks have yet to solve Yovani Gallardo.

They'll get another chance today against the right-hander in the conclusion of a three-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Gallardo is 6-0 with a 1.21 ERA in six career starts vs. Arizona. That includes a 7-1 win in his only start this season on May 25 at Chase Field, when he gave up a run over 7 1/3 innings.

Over his last four starts overall, Gallardo is 2-1, but he's coming off a 3-1 loss at Cincinnati on Monday after he gave up just four hits and two runs over six innings.

Josh Collmenter had plenty of success working out of the bullpen, so much that he's back in a starting role for Arizona.

The problem is, he's yet to produce a win in 15 outings this season. The righty has given up a total of one run over his last six appearances, including five relief efforts.

Ryan Braun homered in back-to-back innings on Saturday and the Brewers coasted to a 10-2 rout. Braun hit a solo shot in the third, then belted a two-run blast an inning later. Cody Ransom added a three-run homer in the fourth for Milwaukee, which had lost five of seven coming in.

"This team has always been dependent on the home run," said Braun. "A lot of guys were struggling, but over the last month and a half we have been a lot more consistent."

The Diamondbacks' bats were hot in the opener, but rookie Mike Fiers (3-2) silenced them on Saturday, tossing six shutout innings with a career-high 10 strikeouts. It marked the righty's second straight start without allowing a run.

Miguel Montero hit a ninth-inning homer for the Diamondbacks, while Gerardo Parra added an RBI in the eighth. Aaron Hill, who hit for his second cycle of June on Friday, went 1-for-4.

Wade Miley (9-4) took the loss, giving up eight runs on eight hits in 3 2/3 innings. He had allowed just one run in each of his previous four outings.

"The quality pitches weren't there," said Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson. "He didn't locate like he normally does. I told him it's a game to forget."

The Diamondbacks are 13-1 in the past 14 series-ending contests.

Milwaukee lost two of three in the desert from May 25-27 and is 6-10 in the previous 16 matchups between the two clubs.
