Giants go with Lincecum in return home versus Rockies

(Sports Network) - Tim Lincecum goes after a third straight win this evening when the San Francisco Giants return home for the start of a three-game set with the Colorado Rockies at AT&T Park.

The Giants head home tonight after an impressive 5-2 road trip that started with a three-game sweep of the Rockies. But, they also return home as losers in seven of their last eight in front of their fans.

"This was an important road trip," manager Bruce Bochy told the Giants' official website. "We bounced back after really struggling there at home. The guys showed a lot of character on this trip."

San Francisco's trip ended on a sour note on Thursday, as it dropped a 3-1 decision to the St. Louis Cardinals.

Madison Bumgarner (12-7) tossed his sixth straight quality start but could not outduel the Cardinals' Adam Wainwright. The left-hander gave up three runs on three hits and struck out seven in six innings of work.

Tonight, the Giants turn to Lincecum, who may be getting his game back on track after a season's worth of frustration. Lincecum won for the third time in four starts on Sunday in Colorado, as he held the Rockies to a run and five hits in six innings. However, he did walk five batters, two of which came in the first inning.

"I'll be honest -- that's a big first inning," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. "I didn't know how much we were going to get out of him. He saved us by regrouping. That was impressive."

In three starts against Colorado this season, Lincecum is 1-0 with a 3.66 ERA. He is 9-6 lifetime against the Rockies with a 3.66 ERA in 20 starts.

Colorado, meanwhile, will counter with righty Tyler Chatwood, who has spent most of his time this season as a reliever and is 1-2 with a 6.61 ERA. Chatwood started against Lincecum and the Giants on Sunday and absorbed the loss, surrendering three runs (1 earned) and two hits in 3 1/3 frames.

The Rockies were denied a series sweep in Los Angeles on Wednesday, as they fell to the Dodgers, 6-4.

DJ LeMahieu went 2-for-4 and tied the game with a fourth-inning RBI single, but Carlos Torres (1-1) issued a bases-loaded walk to Hanley Ramirez in the fifth, putting Los Angeles on top for good.

Jeff Francis gave up three runs on four hits with two walks and two strikeouts in a four-inning start for the Rockies, who were looking for their first road sweep of the season.

San Francisco is 6-2 against the Rockies this season.
