The Brewers have won four of six games and salvaged the finale of a three-game set against the Houston Astros with a 5-3 win on Sunday. Yovani Gallardo struck out eight batters and allowed three runs in 7 2/3 innings for the win, while Jose Veras and Kameron Loe held Houston scoreless the rest of the way. Low notched his first save with two strikeouts in the ninth inning.
"He got it going and ended up throwing fastballs down in the zone really well ... the cutter was really good," Brewers manger Ron Roenicke said of Gallardo.
Rickie Weeks, Ryan Braun and Martin Maldonado each drove in a run for the Brewers, who halted an 11-game road losing streak. Corey Hart homered in the win as well.
Mike Fiers draws the start for the Brewers tonight and is 6-4 with a 1.80 earned run average in 13 games (12 starts) this season. He has won his last three outings and was last in action during a 3-1 win over Cincinnati on Tuesday, when he allowed three hits and fanned seven batters through eight innings of one-run ball.
Fiers, a right-hander, faced Colorado once in his career in relief. He has never toed the rubber at Coors Field.
Colorado, meanwhile, has dropped six of nine games and lost two of three at San Francisco over the weekend.
In Sunday's 9-6 loss at AT&T Park, Eric Young Jr. had three hits and an RBI and Josh Rutledge, Jordan Pacheco and DJ LeMahieu all ended with two hits and drove in a run for the Rockies, who remain last in the National League West.
Matt Belisle gave up four runs in the eighth to absorb the loss. Alex White got the start and yielded three runs in four innings of work.
"We did everything we could do to try to win the game...played with heart, played with energy," said Rockies manager Jim Tracy.
Taking the mound for the hosts tonight will be Jeff Francis. The left-hander is 0-2 in his last three starts and 1-3 over his previous four decisions. He fell to 3-4 in 13 starts overall with a 6.06 ERA following a 6-4 loss at Los Angeles on Wednesday, as he allowed three runs in four innings of a no- decision.
Francis hasn't pitched past four innings in each of his last three starts and owns a 2-3 mark with a 7.09 ERA in six career starts against Milwaukee.
Colorado won two of three meetings at Milwaukee from April 20-22 this season. The Rockies could have trouble in this series at Coors Field, where they have dropped three in a row and 10 of 11 contests.
