A's, Angels continue series

Sep 4, 2012 - 2:55 PM (Sports Network) - Jarrod Parker tries to get the Oakland Athletics back on the winning track Tuesday when they continue a three-game set with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim at the Coliseum.

Parker was fortunate to get a win on Thursday against the lowly Cleveland Indians, as he allowed five runs and eight hits with three walks in five innings. Luckily, the A's scored 12 runs and he improved to 9-7 to go along with a 3.72 ERA.

"It felt like it was a hitter's day," Oakland manager Bob Melvin said. "Every pitcher had some trouble out there."

Parker lost to the Angels the last time he faced them and is 0-1 two starts against them with a 3.29 ERA.

Oakland saw its nine-game winning streak come to an end on Monday, as Chris Ianetta had three hits, including a solo homer, and drove in three runs to lead the Angels to an 8-3 win.

Vernon Wells and Torii Hunter also homered for the Angels, winners in six of their last seven.

C.J. Wilson (11-9) gave up two runs on five hits over five innings to pick up the win.

"We've been playing some pretty good baseball," Wilson said. "Our bullpen's been really good the last couple of games and our starting pitchers are turning it around a little bit.

Josh Donaldson had two hits, including a homer, Chris Carter smacked a solo shot and Josh Reddick knocked in a run for the A's, who are still atop the AL wild card standings.

Tommy Milone (11-10) was tagged with the loss after giving up five runs on 10 hits over three-plus innings.

"When he threw the ball over the plate, they were hitting it hard," Melvin said.

The Angels, meanwhile, will rely on righty Zach Greinke, who has won three of his last four starts. Greinke won his second straight outing on Thursday, as he held the Boston Red Sox to a pair of runs and five hits in seven innings.

He had surrendered just a run over 7 2/3 innings in his previous start and is now 3-2 with a 4.82 ERA since being acquired from the Milwaukee Brewers.

"I was already doing so bad, so one more bad game isn't a big deal," Greinke said. "I was just kind of pitching and letting things happen, and it's been working good the last two games, doing it that way."

Greinke has had some success versus the A's over the course of his career, going 5-1 with a 3.31 ERA in 14 games (10 starts).

Oakland is 7-6 versus the Angels this season.
